The Table

‘People gather. They eat, drink, speak. They are among themselves happily.‘

By Ann Lauterbach

Lara is a British Still Life painter based in Warwickshire, England.  Her paintings are snap shots of domestic moments, captured in paint. They are moments in time and speak of relationships between objects, these are usually representative of real-life relationships. ‘Three Bowls’ is equally ‘Three People’, ‘A mother and her children’.

Lara paints intuitively from memory. The compositions are not planned, instead they evolve from the process.

The paint is layered and there are often ghosts of previous compositions revealed by thinner layers.  These ghosts will often take the painting in a new direction.  She uses a palette of muted, almost dirty colours, which sing harmoniously.

She is inspired by the likes of Willliam Scott, Ben Nicholson and lately Milton Avery.

As her practice develops her work has become more primitive in it’s style and lighter in touch.
